Origin

Lateral epicondyle of the humerus (common extensor origin).

Insertion

Base of the third metacarpal.

Action

Extends and abducts the wrist with ECRL; fires hardest in a power grip.

Nerve supply

Radial nerve — posterior interosseous branch (C7–C8).

Blood supply

Radial artery.

Clinical relevance

Its degenerate origin at the lateral epicondyle is tennis elbow — lateral elbow pain worsened by resisted wrist extension.
