Origin

Medial epicondyle of the humerus (common flexor origin).

Insertion

Base of the second metacarpal (and partially the third).

Action

Flexes and abducts (radially deviates) the wrist; stabilises the wrist platform for gripping.

Nerve supply

Median nerve (C6–C7).

Blood supply

Radial and ulnar arteries.

Clinical relevance

FCR runs in its own fibro-osseous tunnel beside the carpal tunnel; its tendon guides the volar (Henry) approach to the distal radius and can be harvested for thumb-base ligament reconstruction.
