Origin

Humero-ulnar head: medial epicondyle and coronoid. Radial head: oblique line of the radius.

Insertion

Sides of the middle phalanges of the medial four fingers (each tendon splits for the profundus).

Action

Flexes the proximal interphalangeal joints, and secondarily the MCP and wrist — the typing muscle of the four fingers.

Nerve supply

Median nerve (C8–T1).

Blood supply

Ulnar and radial arteries.

Clinical relevance

Its tendons test finger-level flexion individually: 'flex the PIP while I hold the others'. Its fibrous sheath is where trigger fingers catch.
