Origin

Anterior and medial surfaces of the ulna and interosseous membrane.

Insertion

Bases of the distal phalanges of the medial four fingers.

Action

The only flexor of the distal interphalangeal joints — the final curl of grip strength.

Nerve supply

Anterior interosseous nerve (median) to digits 2–3; ulnar nerve to digits 4–5.

Blood supply

Anterior interosseous and ulnar arteries.

Clinical relevance

Testing DIP flexion isolates it; jersey fingers avulse its tendon from the distal phalanx when gripping a tackling shirt.
