Latin: M. brachioradialis sinistra

Location: Forearm

Origin

Proximal two-thirds of the lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus.

Insertion

Distal radius, styloid process (lateral surface).

Action

Flexes the elbow most powerfully in the mid-prone (thumb-up) position — the 'hammer' position; also helps return the forearm from full pronation or supination.

Nerve supply

Radial nerve (C5–C6) — although it flexes the elbow, it develops in the posterior (extensor) compartment, hence its radial supply.

Blood supply

Radial recurrent artery.

Clinical relevance

Brachioradialis is the muscle hammered in the standard supinator (brachioradialis) reflex testing C5–C6; its tendon guides the distal-radial surgical approach (Henry's incision).
