MuscleNeck — superficial
Platysma
Latin: M. platysma
Location: Neck
View the platysma in 3DOrigin
Fascia over the pectoralis major and deltoid.
Insertion
Mandible, skin of the lower face, and the orbicularis oris.
Action
Tenses the neck skin, depresses the jaw and pulls the mouth corners down — the grimace muscle of the cervical fascia's roof.
Nerve supply
Cervical branch of the facial nerve (CN VII).
Blood supply
Submental and superficial cervical arteries.
Clinical relevance
Surgical 'neck lifts' tighten it; facial nerve cervical-branch palsy asymmetrises the neck fold on grimace.
