Insertion
Median raphe and body of the hyoid.
Action
Forms the mouth's muscular floor, elevating the hyoid and tongue in swallowing.
Nerve supply
Mylohyoid nerve (V3).
Blood supply
Inferior alveolar and submental arteries.
Clinical relevance
Ludwig's angina — spreading infection of the submandibular spaces above and below it — pushes the tongue up and back toward the airway.
