Insertion
Medial border of the scapula at the level of its spine.
Action
Retracts the scapula toward the midline, working in tandem with rhomboid major.
Nerve supply
Dorsal scapular nerve (C5).
Blood supply
Dorsal scapular artery.
Clinical relevance
Serratus anterior palsy causes medial winging (the scapula drifts toward the spine); rhomboid or trapezius weakness causes lateral winging.
