Course

Passes from the bifurcation to the left lung hilum, arching over the left main bronchus in front of the descending aorta.

Branches

Upper and lower lobar arteries.

Clinical relevance

The artery the foetal ductus joins — its ligamentum remnant tethers the vagus' left recurrent laryngeal nerve under the aortic arch, anatomy's classic loop.
