Infraspinatus

Infraspinous fossa of the scapula.
Insertion
Middle facet of the greater tubercle of the humerus.
Action
Laterally rotates the shoulder and stabilises the head of the humerus; essential for the cocking phase of throwing.
Nerve supply
Suprascapular nerve (C5–C6).
Blood supply
Suprascapular and circumflex scapular arteries.
Clinical relevance
Suprascapular nerve compression at the spinoglenoid notch wastes infraspinatus selectively — the posterior shoulder weakness of volleyball players.
